LOCAL LANDSCAPING COMPANY PARTNERS WITH ROTARY TO ASSIST THE SUTHERLAND UNITING CHURCH

BC Sands' Mark Parsons with our President Alan Heighway at the handover.

The Sutherland Uniting Church is a busy community hub.

The church hall is used by approx..1500 mothers, children and students per week, attending dancing, gym coaching classes plus childcare.

The church also generously allows our Rotary Club to operate a second hand bookstall on Saturdays. The church foreground however was covered with 20 year old artificial grass, which was badly in need of replacement, and was a significant safety risk to the passing public. New artificial grass was required along with new foundation material.

Our Rotary Club asked the Shire’s largest landscape supply company BC Sands for assistance in the supply of base materials and sand.

Managing Director Mark Parsons was only too willing to help, saying he would be pleased to work with The Rotary Club of Sutherland in this community project.

Our Rotary Club members took on the task of removing and disposing of the old turf, whilst preparing the base for the new turf. With the assistance of a skilled tradesperson new turf was purchased, laid and sanded.

The new area perfectly compliments the heritage listed church, and both the church parishioners and the many passing visitors have welcomed the refurbished grass forecourt.
