To the question ….“Does your Mum or Dad give you breakfast before school? “
Sadly, for many children in the Shire the answe is “No” ..

But on 2 days per week, if you visit the Jannali Primary School canteen , you will see children flying in like seagulls diving for chips!
Thats when the bells sounds, and a free breakfast is served to students.
Why do some children arrive hungry?
Reasons?  Single parents, unemployment, mental health issues.  No breakfast means an unsettled student, with reduced attention span and a greater likelihood of disruption to others in the classroom.

Our Club has helped to feed the students by donating food to Jannali  Public School.  We ran a breakfast food collection at Woolworths Southgate, asking shoppers to donate an item from the shopping list supplied. In just 3  x 2 hour sessions, we were given enough food for the year !  The value of food donated was over $1,650 !

You might ask … “Why is the Breakfast Club only running 2 days per week?”

Same old story…funding. The School does not have the money required for serving staff or buy food. Fortunately, the local charity Better Connected provides a volunteer to prepare & serve the breakasts .

School Principal Narelle Chaplin has been the enthusiastic driver of the Breakfast Club program, as she can see first hand how a solid meal before teaching begins makes such a difference ..at least for 2 days per week.
